Planning a road trip from Winnipeg to vancouver in July. What's the best route for camping on the way?

Rental car? One way fee? The ViaRail Canadian travels 3 days a week out of Winnipeg. Take it to Jasper and stay for 2 or 3 days and then take it to Vancouver.
Sleeping in a coach seat overnight is a bit more comfortable to me than camping in a tent.
In the outskirts of Jasper I like the HI hostels which is likely cheaper than many places in town.
There are rental car places within walking distance of the Jasper train station.

how many days do you have. tent camping? rv? if you are just driving to get "there" then just look at googlemaps.com or mapquest.com. if you have time and looking for sightseeing...tell us what your interests are. i.e. hiking, beaches, etc.
