Help! which is the best place to stay in montreal?
I've been researching places to stay in Montreal for a weekend getaway. I have chosen the following plces so far. Can anyone reccomend one over the other? Or let me know if they are any good? I won't be renting a car while visiting so location is also key.

Chateau Versailles
Hotel Argoat
Les Bon Matins
Aberge de la Place Royale
Aberge les Passants du sans soucy
Hotel St Paul
Hotel Saint-Paul
Since you won't be renting a car, you should stay in Old Montreal. There is a lot of sightseeing and the subway is nearby. I just got back from Montreal and were staying at Auberge du Vieux-Port. My husband and I had a great time. Our room was overlooking the port and the staff was superb.

To add to your confusion I would vote for the Chateau Versailles. They have two buildings: one large tower & a more intimate townhouse across the street. It is well situated & all downtown destinations are walkable.

has anyone stayed at the Ritz Carlton? We are planning 2 nights there at the end of May, but since it is not on the list above, maybe I am missing something.

AC, I'm planning a trip too and researched Les Bon Matins as well. I had a hard time finding much about it from anyone who stayed there. Also, someone on this board described the area it is in as somewhat seedy. Hope that helps.
