Help! Where to stop between Toronto and Moncton???

Need your help in suggesting where we should overnight on our road trip from Toronto to Moncton NB.

Our plan is to drive from Toronto for 10hours which should take us somewhere between Quebec City and Edmonston NB .

Any thoughts on where would be a good location to overnight between Quebec City and Edmonston that has a nice hotel..restaurants etc!

Appreciate your help - Merci ! Maggey

There is not much east of Quebec City.

And it certainly is a long drive to get there.

But anyway, my father and I stayed, years ago, several times in a big motel-like establishment facing, overwidefields, theSt. lawrence.

I'll be back with more info if I can find it still exists.

I would recommend you stop in Quebec City. Choice of hotels/motels in Edmundston is somewhat limited. We often drive from Ottawa to Halifax and Quebec City is our midpoint if we don't drive it in a day - typically we drive the 16 hours (ish) in one day. Quebec City will offer the greatest variety from five star to one-star + restaurants ...but at least you have the choice. If you've never been to Quebec City - it is well worth the stop - beautiful town, great restaurants, nice place to stretch your legs after 10 hours in a car. Don't mistake Levis for Quebec City - if you're going to stop in this area, take the extra few minutes it will take you to go into Quebec City.

Found it.

If you try Google images, you'll find old postcards from back inthe time when I stayed there.

It's been over 40 years since I was there, so it is safe to say the place is memorable.

Going the other way, on a fairly recent trip I left Moncton about 10:30 and had an early evening dinner in Quebec City, but I did not see anything on the way.

There are plenty of places to stay between Québec City and Edmondston. You just have to get off the Autoroute 20.

My suggestion would be Montmagny. It's not that far beyond Québec and is close to the 20. For a nice hotel with a good restuarant I would recommend La Belle Epoque.

Another option is Rivière du Loup, about 70 minutes north of Edmundston. That's where I usually stop when travelling from Halifax to Ottawa.

I have twice stayed at Auberge de la Pointe, which offers tranquil views over the St. Lawrence and decent dining.

Often we stop in Quebec City because it's nice (the Old "Vieux Quebec" district), has a large choice of hotels, restaurants and shops usually stay open late so makes for a pleasant evening.

But last time we drove out east we went as far as Riviere-du-Loup as suggested by AnselmAdorne. We stayed in one of the several chain hotels there (can't remember for sure which, posssibly the Quality Inn), but there are a number of choices including some smaller Inns. Ate in a large, popular restaurant in the small but pleasant downtown.

I second the stop in Riviere du Loup.
Lots of hotels
. And I have made the drive many, many, many times!!

Thank you all for your suggetions! I think Riviere-du-Loup will be the best place for us to overnight. Thanks again Maggey
