HELP ! Where to move in Vancouver?
 

Hi ,
I need some help finding the right neighbourhood in Vancouver. I'll be moving to Vancouver for a new job at the end of the year . I'll be working in Langley but i don't want to live there.
I loved kitsilano but i don't think i can handle a 2 hour commute per day , any nice neighbourhood in the middle ...between Langley and downtown? I'm single and love hiking and being outside ...

Squashed between English Bay and the mountains, central Vancouver has decent public transit and dreadful traffic. Access should be an important consideration, while commuting between suburbs offers its own challenges. However, as Canada's most expensive city, budget may be as great an obstacle as convenience. That said, it is a spectacular city physically and vibrant in spirit.

You're right - don't try to commute from anywhere near Vancouver to Langley.

Try Abbotsford, Mission, Balcarra, Maple Ridge, White Rock.

Is working from home part-time a possibility?

Take the money you save by not living in central Vancouver, and splurge on hotel stays downtown on weekends now and then. The commute will be awful if you try to drive to Langley every week day.

Live in Langley. Rents are less expensive than Vancouver and you won't have to deal with travel costs and traffic. Keep in mind gasoline prices in the Vancouver area are among the highest in Canada due to taxes. You'd also have to look at bridge tolls. Put that money in your pocket and travel on the weekends to wherever you want to go. There's an MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op) in Langley which suggests there's a good outdoor community there. Give Langley a shot and if it still doesn't work for you, you can move.

I live in Port Coquitlam. I'd say that's right smack in the middle :) I love it here, 2 bridge options from here to get to Langley. If you're the outdoorsy type choose PoCo, because there are great trails & rivers. If not, maybe look into Burnaby, which neighbors Vancouver. Another great city, and a little closer to your beloved Kits area. I would choose Port Coq. over Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Mission or Abbotsford - but that's just me :) Best of luck.
