Hi Cedar!

By all means, YES, YES, YES!!!
Quebec City is one of THE most enjoyable cities in North America. It's not NYC, but it's NOT meant to be. It's fun, romantic, the food is great, the scenery is fantastic, and the people are VERY friendly. I live in NYC, and go up about 4 times a year. My best friend lives there. It's like a second home to me. Try the Hotel Belley, great location and price. It's near the art galleries, old port, and it's just one block <<a steep hill>> away from all of the shops and restaurants on rue St-Jean in the old town. The Hotel Belley has its own web-site.

Have Fun!!!
Ross.

Quebec City is interesting, particularly if you take it with a dose of history.
Afterall one of the decisive battles of this continent was fought right there.
Had the French won, history would have been vastly different.
The presentation at the visitor center for the Plains of Abraham is bi-lingual and well done.
Also, find a bus tour that will take you out to Chute Montmorency. It is a very high waterfall with quite a bit of water going over it. Viewpoints have been set up on walkways, and a bridge goes directly over the brink of the falls so that you can look straight down on the whole thing. It is not a place for people who fear heights, but otherwise it is a most interesting perspective.
I cannot help you on accommodations because we had a car and stayed at a B and B away from the Old City.

Hi

I'm an American who lived in Montreal for 5 years and I strongly second Ross's YES YES YES about Quebec City. It's one of the most interesting and picturesque cities on the continent, with simply gorgeous views of the Saint Lawrence River. Some restaurants there are world-class; not only is the city very historical but visiting will also be a culturally-enriching experience as French Canada is very sociopolitically different from the rest of North America. If you want to practice your French, you'll enjoy it even more. I WILL say that the passion with which the people live their lives there give the city an excitement, a sense of joie de vivre that you won't find in many other cities on the continent.

Have a blast! Dan.

Quebec City is unlike any other city in North America - it is truly like being in Europe. The 'old' part of the city is quite small, and can be seen in a few days, but it's so great to sit out at a sidewalk cafe, taking in the sites! Just outside the old city is the Grand Ailee (sp?), a beautiful tree lined boulevard with wall to wall cafes.Just a few blocks away is a skyscraper with an observatory that offers a great view of the city. The rest of Quebec City is not particularly memorable however, except for the French culture. The falls mentioned above are worth seeing, they are quite spectacular, and right on the highway. Also, a bike ride around Ile D' Orleans can be a beautiful way to spend a day. As for accomodations, there are lots of very quaint B&B's on Rue ST. Ursaline (sp?), right in the heart of the old city. I can't remember the one we stayed at, but they generally run about $60 an night US including breakfast.

Our first trip to Q.C. was this past July and I totally agree with the previous posters sentiments. To me, Quebec is the most beautiful city in North America and its residents among the most friendly people I've had the privelege to meet. I recommend you take a walking tour of the city with a guide - you will get a very good history lesson on North America. Another wonderful building you can tour is the Parliament Building - very beautiful. Also try taking the ferry at dusk so you can see the old town and Hotel Frontenac lit up.

We spent our honeymoon in Montreal and Quebec City and also took the train to get there. We stayed at the Chateau Frontenac and 17 years later I can't think of a more romantic spot for a honeymoon than these two wonderful cities.
