HELP! need advice these Montreal hotels
 

Hi everyone,

I will be going to Montreal for four nights at the end of July. I have been doing some research on hotels and narrowed it down to about six based on their rate of 110$ or less and location. Can anyone tell me if these hotels are in a good?

Le Square Phillips Hotel
Hotel XIXE Siecle
Best Western Villa-Marie Hotel
Quality Inn Downtown
le Cantile Suites
Crowne Plaza Montreal Centre

I think you mean a good location-I've never heard of hotel x1xe Siecle. It depends where you want to be. I happen to love the sherbrooke st location so the 2 I would consider are the Best Western-here is their site:

The Quality Inn is on Crescent Street-also a great street-1-888-878-2714
The Crown Plaza is a suitable hotel-a bit out for my liking but of course it depends what you are doing.

I think most of these hotels are in the downtown core, except the Crowne Plaza, which is about 6 blocks east, in an even more desirable area (in my opinion!)near St. Denis, St. Laurent, Square St. Louis, etc.

I have two suggestions:
First, access www.tripadvisor.com and click on "Montreal" at the bottom of the home page. Then check out the hotel information links on the next screen. Lots of customer and media reviews.
Next, have you ever considered bidding on Priceline for your trip accommodations? I did a quick check on Montreal-Downtown Priceline winning bids as reported by www.biddingfortravel.com (BFT) members over the past couple of months. Winning bids were as folllows:

4* hotels : Omni Mont Royal -- $98 (1), $90 (4) Hotel Sofitel -- $67, $71, $65, $64 (1 each) Hilton Bonaventure --

3* hotels: Renaissance du Parc -- $54 Sheraton le Centre $64, $70 (1 each) Wyndham Montreal $52, $46 (1 each) Delta Montreal $37 (2) $36 Holiday Inn Select $45 (4) $25 (1) $50 (1).
From your list of hotels, BFT lists the Crowne Plaza as a 3* and the Quality as a 2*, but BFT members have not listed winning bids from those hotels in the past two months. BFT has no winning bids listed from the other hotels on your list. I'm sure, if you check the hotel websites, that you'll find the the BFT reported winning bids are consierably below the best rates posted by the hotel. If the geneeral Montreal Downtown location is a concern, check the Priceline website for its map of its Downtown zone.

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza last July. We had a room on higher floor----wonderful view----especially at night. There is a Metro station right across the street. The room was very quiet and comfortable. I can't speak highly of the hotel restaurant. There's a pool and gym sauna etc.

We were happy there.. Especially as we spent prior 3 nights in a well run but NON AIR CONDITIONED B AND B

Hi, I see that you've made your choice, but I wanted to chime in with a strong recommendation for Le Square Phillips Hotel. I just came back from Montreal yesterday and split my time between the Queen Elizabeth and Le Square Phillips. This hotel was wonderful and superior to the Queen Elizabeth - beautifully restored building in a prime location, affordable, helpful friendly staff, and a HUGE room. Money aside, this hotel was fantastic, but when you factor in the affordability of it, it becomes better.

They've got a free breakfast in the morning, a workout facility and a pool on the roof. Their staff was very friendly and accomodating, and the location couldn't have been better.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Montreal. I can't say enough good things about it.
