Halifax, two days at end of May

We shall be in Halifax for two full days, 25 and 26 May. No car.
We plan to visit the city one day, and the other day to take a day tour out of the city.
However, I could not find a tour in May, most of them start in June.
Any recommendation for a tour or how to spend the second day? We love architecture, nice views, museums

I know you said, "no car" but does this mean you would not be willing to rent one? This would be your best option, and you could drive to Peggy's Cove and on to Lunenburg -- excellent day trip!

Ideas on how to spend the second day (no car needed):

The Citadel is interesting historically and for the views of Halifax Harbour below. Walk along Spring Garden Road (check out the Victorian Gardens), Barrington Street, the waterfront boardwalk (admire the glass blowers), the Grand Parade and Historic Properties. Grab some seafood while you're at it (Salty's, Five Fisherman). While all this could easily fill a day, in case you move quickly I also enjoyed taking the ferry to Dartmouth to get out on the water and grabbing a bus (#9) from Barrington Street to Point Pleasant Park, where I enjoyed the views of the Northwest Arm from the hiking trails.

Can't help with tour ideas though...have fun! Halifax is an enjoyable city...while artsbabe is correct that having wheels would allow you to visit a wider range of areas (on your timetable), I've spent a good bit more time than that in the Nova Scotian capital without a car and never run out of things to do!

There is lots to do in the city for two days I guarantee you will wish you had more time. If you do want to tour Peggy's Cove and don't want to rent a car, there is another option of a taxi tour http://www.halifaxtaxitours.com/

Thank you very much to all of you for the good ideas.

I have 2 1/2 days, so I still want to spend a day to visit Peggy's cove, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg. I am waiting for an answer from a taxi tour (Diamond).

Nice to hear that two days is not a too long time in Halifax!

Daniel's already hit most of the major highlights but I'll throw in an additional museum suggestion - The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic (right on the waterfront board walk, near the Historic Properties). Lots of maritime history (shipbuilding, the Halifax explosion and Titanic connections too).

Up on Citadel Hill, watching the historic re-enactors fire the noon gun is great fun too.

Thanks Crowgirl. I already had the Museum on my list. I'll stay at Citadel hotel, near the citadel. I'll check now about noon gun, maybe they have this in May also.
Thanks again.

when i was researching my trip, i thought i came across a boat trip that went from halifax to lunenberg. just another option.

The noon gun is fired every day. In fact, I read a review of the Citadel Inn where some visitors complained that they hadn't been warned about it.

Even the end of May can be cool (average lows in the mid-40s and highs in the mid-60s), so bring a sweater.

Thank you, ARVNSTL, Margriet and Ltt.
I hope to arrive in Halifax on May 24, coming from London (if the volcano will be quiet )!

O, Marihita, you will visit Halifax almost the same time as we shall do!
Hope to have a great time there. Where you will stay? We booked Citadel hotel.
