Halifax - Pubs / Restaurants with live music
We would like to go to a pub / restaurant with live Irish music / or music of 60th, 70th. We are 50 + / 60 +. Are HALIFAX ALEHOUSE and THE LOWER DECK PUB the good place for people of our age, or most of the people there are young and the place is very noisy?

Can you recommend some restaurants with live music?

The Lower Deck is often an older crowd and there's an emphasis on 'east coast' type music (sometimes Nova Scotia folk, sometimes Newfoundland folk) with an emphasis on getting people singing along (you WILL hear 'Barrett's Privateers' sung, at least once, it's like our provincial anthemn).

For Irish/Scottish music, I highly recommend The Old Triangle - there often some really top notch musicians playing (the pub is owned by well known local musicians too). The food and atmosphere is also quite good. A real mix of ages and it can be noisy when the place is full but just the noise of lots of people in a crowded space, not crazy loud music.

There's also an Irish session on Wednesday nights (more informal - musicians just show up and play, never know what you'll get) at Durty Nelly's (although the food and atmosphere aren't quite as good as The Old Triangle).

Thank you, NS. I saw that Old Triangle has very good reviews on net. It is also close to our hotel (near Citadel) so we'll go there.

While not Celtic music, if you are in Halifax on a Saturday afternoon, make sure you head to Your Father's Mustache. For upteen years, they have featured Joe Murphy and the Water St Blues Band from 4-8. The place is packed - older crowd who love to dance. He plays a variety of music but his zydeco gets the place hopping. My only warning, if you want to get a seat, better go early. Great pub food too!

Thanks Tanya. The place looks great, but they have live music on Saturday only, while we shall be there Mo-Wed

Try the Middle Deck - upstairs from the Lower Deck. Great music, not as loud as downstairs, a little nicer decor. You'll love it!
