Halifax, PEI Cape Breton accomodations

We are spending 10 days in Halifax, PEI, Cape Breton. We are thinking of spending the first few days at the Prince George Hotel of the Lord Nelson in Halifax. Any comments? Also where should we set a base on Prince Edward. Should we stay in one place and tour the island, or move around for the 3 days there. Finally, where on Cape Breton to set base and should we attribute just 2 days to CB and spend our last night in Halifax? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, the Lord Nelson is an older hotel but in a good location. You are directly across from the Public Gardens a pretty small park and on Spring Garden Road one of the busier downtown streets for restaurants and stores and well within walking distance of the waterfront/Historic Properties area.
For P.E.I. I would stay in Charlottetown it's capital which is quite pretty but very small and make day trips from there. The Inns on Great George St. are a wonderful, luxurious downtown hotel. Ingonish is a popular location to look at staying in Cape Breton but there are folks with far more in depth info than me. A search on Maritime accomodation or similar should show lots of previous posts which you might find useful. I'd be inclined to return to Hfx. for you last night. I hope you have a great trip.

Check with the Prince George to see if they are still undergoing renos. They have a great restaurant/bar there - recommend it. The Lord Nelson is nice, rooms are small as it is an older hotel that has been completely renovated. Both are close to everything.

In PEI, depending on what you want to do - if beaches stay around Cavendish. Otherwise, I would simply book in Charlottetown - lots of good restaurants, shopping, theatre, etc.

You really need to dedicate at least 3 days to Cape Breton Island - figuring on driving times. Remember Oct 9th is Thanksgiving, so that weekend will be busy in Cape Breton. The colors should be perfect as well the Celtic Colors music festival will be on - so book in advance.
