Opinions on taking shuttle to Grouse Mountain or should we spend more time in Vancouver. Seems like it gets very crowded during the summer.

That depends on how often you might get to Vancouver.


If you're coming from across the world, then GO to Grouse Mountain...


If like me, you've been to Vancouver dozens upon dozens upon dozens of times... then you don't need to go.


The view is truly impressive, and perhaps better all the time... and I like to straddle sunset when I do go up there.


There are lots of activities and there is lots of room up there in the summer...

<I>Not everybody</i> wants to pay the prohibitive cost to go... so do it if you can.

I have read that it is very crowded during the summer and sometimes you are packed in and can't see the scenery. How much does it cost? With only two days in Vancouver should we just see the sights in Vancouver? Thought about using the Hop On Hop Off bus.What do you mean by prohibitive cost?

Admission is $43.95 - that is basically for the ride on the ski lift to the top. I've never been there when it's as crowded as you describe.

I find it hard to believe that it would be too busy to see the scenery in the summer. It's a mountain! The restaurant at the top may be busy, and the gondola on the way home will be full (it almost always is no matter what time of year) but there will be lots of opportunity to see the view.

If you want to hike up (the grouse grind or BCMC trails, will be a very good workout, look it up first), then you can take a public bus there very easily from the Seabus (fun local experience!) and the ride down is only $10. Plus you earn the view.

Vancouver is great but I would highly recommend getting out to see some things outside the city. Other options are the Lynn Canyon suspension bridge and hikes (not intense hiking), the Anthropology museum by UBC (combined with a trip to the beach) or Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver, all easily accessed by public transit.

@followcands OP has stated they are seniors 81 and 78, they won't be doing the Grouse Grind me thinks :)

Thank you for all your advice. We will probably see Grouse Mt. weather permitting. Another question Joe Fortes or Blue Water cafe for a memorable seafood dinner?

They are 2 totally different styles of food, so depends which one you like.
Have a look at the 2 menus...that will give you a good idea. Joe Fortes, more traditional fare, lobster, raw oysters, crab cakes, prawn cocktail, that sort of thing.

Blue Water is more innovative and also has a Raw Bar if you're into that. In my opinion, there's more emphasis on really fresh fish.

If the weather is fine, Joe Fortes rooftop is very nice, especially for lunch.
