Great places to Eat in Victoria?
My wife and I are traveling to Victoria this week and looking for great, reasonably priced places to eat. Staying at the Laurel Point Inn and would prefer locations that are within walking distance, but we do have a car. We are open to any type of food and prefer one of a kind, fun establishments vs chain. Seafood will be a must at least one night as well as Chinatown. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

My favourtie Italian restaurant is Il Terrazzo great food and nice atmosphere. It is about 15 min walk from your hotel. http://www.ilterrazzo.com/

The best meal we had in Victoria was the Indian buffet ($28pp, I think) in the Bombay Lounge at the Empress Hotel. High quality, nice but not overwhelming choice, and some nights there's also music in the lounge.
We also liked the Irish Times pub -- decent food and great music. |
ill terrazio is the best italian by far,the best seafood is at pescatores, right beside the empress hotel.

Another vote for Il Terrazo, which has wonderful food and a very pretty ambiance.
Our absolutely favourite restaurant in Victoria, though, is Rebar Modern Food. It's in Bastion Square, which runs between Government Street and the waterfront. The food is mostly veggie and absolutely delicious. Very casual atmosphere, and would certainly fit your criterion of one-of-a-kind; it's like dining with family. They put out a cookbook a couple of years ago, so I use that when we need a Rebar fix and don't have time to drive in from Sooke. In Chinatown we like Ocean Garden, right on the corner of Fisgard and Douglas. There are fancier places but they seem more Westernized, if you know what I mean. |
Ah Rebar! I use their cookbook every day and love all their recipes........
If you are a carnivore you might have a little problem b/c the menu is mostly vegetarian. |
Here are a couple of recs at the opposite ends of the spectrum.
The 'noodle box' on Fisgard (chinatown) is so popular, they have opened a second on lower Douglas. They are about noodles 'in boxes obviously' with dishes labeled as mild medium and spicy. http://www.thenoodlebox.net/ On Friday a coworker was raving about a place called I think 'the pig' in the 700 block of View St. It sounds to be about huge pork ribs and pork burgers. Here is a review. http://www.dinehere.ca/restaurant.asp?r=2342 |
If you're staying at the Laurel Point Inn then don't miss eating at Barb's Place on Fisherman's Wharf. It's very close, fun, and delicious, though it's eating outdoors on picnic tables. The free entertainment is provided by the harbor seals.
