Great Indian Rest. in Kelowna
 

One of best I've had - Chutney's 3001 Pandosy St. in the Village. We arrived 6pm on Friday night without reservations and were lucky to get in - people were being turned away shortly afterwards as it was very busy. We had wonderful curry chicken, tandoori vegs and a garlic/coriander naan that was fabulous. Highly recommend it.

Thanks, I am making a note of this: we are having a conference in K next year and I am collecting non-fast-food reccos.

About a month ago, we also ate at an Indian restaurant in Kelowna that we really enjoyed.... Da Tandoor, 237 Lawrence Avenue.

We had a great trip and now know why so many folks from here (east) retire or move to Kelowna area.
Although I have to admit to "sticker shock" at the grocery store. It was sure expensive! But we really had fun and bonus that we had fantastic weather!

The Manteo Beach Resort was very nice - well equipped and we barbequed some of the fabulous wild salmon we picked up. We also barbequed some sausages from Okanagan Sausage Company - really good. We did the Kettle Valley Steam Train trip and it was really fun - my husband is a steam train fanatic so he really enjoyed it. We managed to rent a canoe and did some paddling on Kalamalka Lake and Wood Lake. Also got to the lovely Lavendar Farm and bought some lovely gifts.

We visited about 20 wineries. Memorable ones were - lunch outside at Mission Hill..pricey but the view was worth a million bucks! We took a picnic lunch to Dirty Laundry winery and sat in their lovely covered patio. It was nice but we wished we had waited till we got to Thornhaven Winery because it had a fantastic view and they were happy to accommodate your picnic lunch. Also took picnic lunch to Hester Creek. It was nice because you could order a bottle of wine, have a couple of glasses and cork the wine for later that night at home. We also thought NK'Mip winery and complex was incredible. We were there first thing in the morning or would have stayed for lunch on their amazing patio. We did spend some time looking for Hawthorne Winery before discovering they had changed their name to "See Ya Later". We had a tour at Summerhill Pyramid Winery that was really interesting. One of the most interesting wines we tasted was the "Flame" wine at Silver Sage..very hot with a chili pepper inside. They also had an interesting Sage Wine. We were surprised that the wineries didn't charge for tastings..only Oliver Twist charged but gave it back to you if you bought something. We found Jackson Trigg to be the least favourite winery - no view, no atmosphere - just seemed to be a big store.

We ordered in Chinese food from Mekong and were a little disappointed...it was just ok. Had lunch at the Bread Company..what a great spot! We had a great meal as mentioned earlier at Chutneys..loved that place.

We bought a styrofoam case at Cedar Creek Winery that held 6 bottles of wine. We taped it up really well (especially the top) and all the wine survived a trip to Calgary (via Vancouver) and then another trip to Toronto. One thing of note - if you are leaving from the Kelowna airport and either taking a direct flight or taking a connecting flight within Canada (you don't have to go thru Security again)...you can buy wine at the Wine Shop at the Kelowna airport AFTER you go thru Security. You can then carry that wine onboard and onto your next flight if it's a connecting flight within Canada. If we were going to Kelowna again, we would buy all our wine there and carry 3-4 bottles each onto the plane for our trip back to Ontario.

All in all, a lovely trip to a gorgeous town.

Sounds like a lovely time. We're heading out to some local wineries for the October Winefest. I can't wait!

I didn't notice "sticker shock" after moving from Calgary. lol. Although i buy a lot of the local farmers produce.
