Great B&B Victoria?
 

Heading to Victoria in September and would like to stay at a nice Bed and Breakfast in a good location. So far, I'm considering Abbeymoore Manor and Ambrosia B&B. We will have a car, but would still like to be in a convenient but quiet location if possible.
Would appreciate any suggestions.

Two years ago I stayed at two B&Bs in Victora back to back...

Literally! One virtually backed on to the other.

They are located in the Rockland district of Victoria.. close to Government House. While not right downtown, they are certainly walking distance. I walked to and from the waterfront several times... and while not a marathon hike, I was happy I was wearing comfortable shoes!

Each property is beautiful with professional hosts and great breakfasts... In design, however, they are quite different, so you will probably find looking at their websites that one appeals to you more.

I would recommend either without hesitation (and one only has to look at my screen name to deduce how picky I am...)

I have no first hand knowledge of either place but of the two, I would prefer the location of Abbeymoore Manor. It's not that convenient to town and not a place where you can just walk out to restaurants, but Rockland is a lovely residential area. If you stay there, be sure to wander through the grounds of Government House. It's best in spring, and the roses are fragrant in summer, but it's a nice place any time of year.

I might have suggested Haterleigh Heritage Inn closer to downtown but am not sure if it has changed hands. Nearby Marketa's B&B is more rustic looking but seems to get good reviews.

You might also want to check out a couple of larger B&Bs: the Beaconsfield and Abigail's which are in the neighbourhood of the Ambrosia B&B.

In addition to the options that have been mentioned, I think the Anderson House is quite nice, and it's in a residential neighborhood within walking distance of the Inner Harbour.

We stayed at Ryan's B and B which is a little south of Victoria Harbor.
We splurged and took room #4 with its king bed and in-room jacuzzi.

It might be a little over the top price wise, but when we were there the dollar was much stronger.

This is not the only room in the building, however. There are 8 in all of varying sizes and prices.

When we were there Sheila Ryan, recording artist, still ran the place, but that is no longer the case although the name remains.

It was a good location for us with free parking.

Both the Andersen's and Ryan's are handy to the harbour and town (Andersen's more so) and are worth checking out, I think.

I've never heard of Binner's, but it's close to the ocean and the park, not so handy to walking to town.

My preference would be to be near the harbour or in Rockland (with a car).

For Vancouver, if you want a B&B there as well, I'd suggest O Canada House or English Bay Inn.

Two years ago we stayed at Abigails in Victoria. Loved it! Breakfast was nice as it had 3 options, from light and healthy to more extravagant. It was very good. In the afternoon they have appetizers and happy hour in the library. Our room was nice, and the location was a short walk to the inner harbour area. We were very close to the park as well, which we spent quite a bit of time at.

I think for Vancouver, I would also consider a nice hotel, price range up to $350 per night. Any recommendations?

Just checked out a Vancouver B&B called Barclay House. Does anyone know of it? Its in the West End.

I don't know what rates will be at the Wedgewood in September but it's a great small hotel in Vancouver and worth looking into.

Wedgewood is a little above my price range, over $400 with taxes.
Does anyone know anything about the Metropolitan, Le Soleil, Sutton Place or Pan Pacific?
Still interested in Barclay House B&B as well (not Barclay Hotel).

We stayed at the Abbeymoore last summer for 5 nights and quite enjoyed our stay there. It's a lovely property in a very nice neighbourhood. As others have mentioned, it's just across the street from the Lt-Gov's residence with its magnificent gardens, and the Rockland district is quiet and great for walking. Craigdarroch Castle and the Victoria Art Gallery are close by.

It's a bit more than a stroll from downtown, so if you want to be close to the harbour, shops and downtown restuarants, you might look elsewhere. However, it's only a short drive (10 minutes) away from these.

On balance, I'd certainly stay there again.

My girlfriend & I just got back from Victoria on Sunday night. We stayed at a B &B called The Rosewood.It was charming-the location is in a residential neighborhood. There is plenty of parking-about 4 blocks to the inner harbor. Try this site for it www.aviawest.com
We were there on a timeshare trade but they also rent out rooms. The beds are the most comfortable I have slept in.When you walked in the front door you felt like you were home. Everyday they had a breakfast that was quite large and different every day and a tea at 3. We skipped the tea after the first day because the restaurnats in town were phenominal.
Because it was slow season the restaurants had dine around meals-a fodorite suggested this & thank you very much. We had a seafood dinner at Chandlers that was unbeleivable. Soup or salade-2 lobster tails-2 crab legs-garlic shrimp,mushrooms with a cream sauce-plus baked potatoes & carrots and a desert for 2 $77.00 Unbeleivable!!!!
Another wonderful restaurant was Wild Saffron Bistro. Delicious|!|!|!!!

My sis and I are staying at the Rosewood Victoria Inn in April -- I've heard such good things about it (as well as an amazing breakfast). I'll post our trip report when we return end of April.

I don't know anything about it, but just spotted this very narrow, but new and tidy looking B&B in James Bay not far from the harbour.
