Good Sushi in Vancouver...
 

Hello,<BR><BR>I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me some good recommendations on a nice (and reasonable) Sushi restaurant around Robson St (surronding areas). Also a good seafood place with a nice view and a romantic atmosphere would be great (for an anniversary dinner celebration) and a good Thai restaurant (any where)! Tsunami on Robson is a fun place to go for sushi -- the sushi floats by on little boats on a moat that circles the restaurant. Then you just take the plates that you want (the price is marked). It's usually very busy, though, especially at lunch.<BR><BR>For spanish, try El Patio on Cambie. I haven't been there for a while, but it used to be excellent.<BR><BR>For tapas, try La Bodega on Howe.

It's been years since Tsunami was run by Japanese chefs.<BR>These days the food is a limp imitation of the real thing and the hygene is questionable.<BR>Still popular but then again so is MacDonald's.

How about Nikko across the street from Tsunami? Reasonable and much better than Tsunami IMO.

I agree Tsumani is more novelty than good food. I've gone to Ichiban, just off Robson, across from Mcdonalds. It is very popular and busy, and also has a "boat going around in cirles" type setup plus regular seating. If you want great quality and not on a budget, go to Tojo's on Broadway.

Ok, my bad. It's been years since I've been to Tsunami, I had no idea the quality had gone down. A shame.<BR><BR>Another idea for sushi: if you want cheap and quantity over high-quality and variety, there are a few buffet places that feature sushi. Grand Buffet (a chain) used to, but I'm not sure if they still do. I do know that E-Hak on Kingsway still does -- all you can eat Japanese and Korean, including sushi. The suchi is good quality, you just don't get a lot of variety.

Mike ... your fave tapas place that went under ... that wouldn't by any chance have been Las Tapas on Hamilton (or was it Cambie)? I still miss that place. But someone told me there's a new tapas bar in the exact same location. Haven't checked it out yet.

Ana,<BR><BR>Do keep in mind that there are literally hundreds of sushi restaurants within Vancouver. Tojo's is the top of the top - it's probably the best in North America, (or so many people have claimed). It's also very expensive.<BR><BR>Ichibankan (which is probably what Darlene meant) is where me and my boyfriend occasionally visit if we're looking for a fast cheap meal. It's located on Thurlow street downtown, right next to the Starbucks and (like Darlene said), across from the McDonalds (and across from the restaurant "Joe Fortes"). Ichibankan is located downstairs. They're always playing jazz music, and while the sushi at the sushi bar doesn't go around on little boats with water, it does go around on a conveyer belt. They have 2 sections - the sushi bar, and the restaurant. The sushi bar is definitely more fun. :) But do keep in mind, this is not high-end sushi... but it's not supposed to be either. ;) It's probably a good place to start off in Vancouver for cheap sushi.
