good hiking near Whistler (short)

Hi all

Since I will be spending part of one day flying out of Squamish, I figure if I have some time afterwards to maybe catch a short hike near Whistler.

any recos on last minute resources to look up? a one or two hour scenic hike would be invigorating. (no clambering, etc.) perhaps even a lift part way up and a hike down, for instance. I've never been so I don't know what to expect.

is there any central location which may have lockers? I'm thinking of taking my own headsets on this trip for flying and don't want to carry those around all day afterwards.

i recommend to investigate carefully for your travel time about impact of the "sea to sky highway improvement project".

The highway between Squamish and Whistler is closed during night time (3 am and 6 am) and partly closed (10 am to 2 pm). The estimtated travel time between Squamish and Whistler is 1 hour without construction delays. You have to add 30 minute because of road maintenance.

This will cost some time and you should investigate if you have enough spare time for a trip towards Whistler.

There is also good hiking clsoe to Squamish (but without a gondola).

for highway maintenance schedule.

Hi Flygirl,
If you check the following website, you will get CORRECT road information. The driving time from Squamish to Whistler is only 45 minutes. Currently , there MAY be 15 minute delays, but probably not on weekends or holidays. Whistler Mountain reopens for hiking on June 24th. You can then take the gondola up to the top and hike down. If you want, you can leave your headphones and other gear at my office in Marketplace. You can email me at [email protected] to arrange this. Cheers, Al

Hi Al!

thank you, what a kind offer!

I think I've decided to stick to either Squamish area (the Chief) or maybe do Grouse Mountain instead. my time is kinda limited in general and I'd like to be able to spend more exploring Vancouver itself, too.

I did however look at your website and I believe I've found just the place. (Garibaldi Drive - very cute!)

should things change at the last minute (which with me can happen pretty easily) I'll surely let you know. thanks again!
