Going in August

Any info on these resorts; White Point Beach Resort, Dundee Resort, Mountain Gap Inn, traveling with a 6yo. Local must see, and things to do? Thanks!

It would be helpful if you would tell us where these resorts are.

Ooop! White PointBeach Resort is in White Point. Dundee Resort is in Dundee and the Mountain Gap is in Digby.

I can only find a Digby in Nova Scotia on the map. Can't find White Point or Dundee. Which province are you talking about? Are you even talking about Canada?

Lancer Feb 23rd, 2004 11:05 AM

All resorts are in Nova Scotia. Sorry for the confusion.

Ar... I think you are talking about Nova Scotia. Digby is closed to Fort Anne and Port-Royal. Interesting historical areas there. Pretty places.

Dundee is in Cape Breton Island. The Cabot Trail in the Northern part of that island is very beautiful. It's a must see. A bit of a drive from Dundee though.

Haven't travelled to White Point, but to the NE, Mahone Bay and Lulenburg are very nice towns, with the Fisheries Museum, etc...

Sorry, I mean Lunenburg...

Anyways, all are very pretty areas, but I don't know about the resorts themselves. I'd say that Cape Breton Island (i.e. Dundee) has more dramatic scenery. Digby, facing Bay of Fundy, is probably the least.

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to fodors, Lancer. I believe that you will find that you will obtain more responses and less 'attitude' if you put a bit more thought into your post titles. Most folks here scan through the posts looking for areas of expertise and ignore general headings. "Nova Scotia in August" and "Ever been to Nova Scotia" would probably get you more hits and helpful hints.... ;)

Unfortunately, I have no experience with the resorts you mention. I believe that Lunenburg would be of interest to both you and your child for it has a great wharf area with lots of activites: ships to view, sea gulls to chase, and the museum is wonderful..... a scenic seafaring town. Louisbourg on Cape Brenton Island would also be a wonderful spot to take your six year old. Great old buildings to explore, costumed guides, farm animals to pet... Remember that the water will be cold even in August that far north, so if you're looking for a beach experience you'll be fine as long as you have a resort pool for actual swimming.

Dear Lancer, The Dundee resort you can see there website @ www.capebretonresorts.com its a great place to stay. you will be closer to a town by the name of St. Peters on cape Breton island from there you can reach any part of the island by Approx 1 hours drive to sydney or 1 1 /2 hours to louisbourg. Baddeck would be also approx. 1 hour from there but well worth the trip & scenery. Its not all that well known & its usually for the golfers, but they are expanding . If you wondering about the cabot trail its a must see from anywhere on the Island also The Fortress of loiusbourg & the miners Museum in Glace Bay. The Gaelic College is a great spot if you have an scottish blood in you also the Highland village is a great spot. Really to tell you the truth take any road in cape breton & see where you end up you will be surprised by what we have to offer in sites as well as people. anyway have fun & enjoy Cape Breton Island. I have also heard great reviews about the White point beach resort. If your traveling with a 6 yr old you will keep busy & interested while your here.
