girls' trip to Montreal
we are another group of 50ish women who are making a trip to Montreal for 4 days in April. We have rented an apartment in the plateau area. We would like suggestions of what to do and see in Montreal during that time. Our French is limited so French theatre is not suitable. Thanks in advance.

Depending on where you are coming from it might make sense to get to Montreal by train. |
Check the tourist web site for special exhibits and events during the days you are there. Montreal has many festivals all year round.
Museums I would especially recommend are the Fine Arts museum, the Pointe-à-Callière(archeology) museum and the Château Ramezay. It is fund to visit the Jean Talon market. The Plateau has many good restaurants, especially on Duluth. Many of these are BYOB |
Exploring the streets of Montreal is lots of fun. The plateau is rich with small, funky shops, interesting restaurants (many byob), quiet parks and tree lined streets. In old Montreal don't miss going in Notre Dame. I believe Cirque du Soleil is in town mid April. If you have the chance, don't miss it. Downtown, the Museum of Fine Arts is worth a visit, as is the eclectic Redpath museum on the McGill campus. I don't know what will be happening outdoors at the Botanical Gardens in April, but the indoor conservatories are amazing. If you enjoy bicycling (and the weather cooperates), Montreal is cris-crossed with hundreds of miles of easy, safe bike trails.

Since you gave no indication of your interests except your age, maybe the group won't all share the same activities. In that case you will need to do your own research. Being located in the Plateau puts lots of informal activities on your doorstep, but for more organized amusement, dig into the city's official tourism site http://www.tourisme-montreal.org/
Once you have done some brainstorming, specific questions to this forum will produce more useful response. |
