Getting from Victoria to Vancouver
 

Can anyone suggest ways to get from Victoria to Vancouver? Might there be a bus that does this route? Other options we should consider?

Pacific Coach Lines bus ($40 as of this past June) leaves from Downtown Victoria and goes to centrally-located Pacific Central Station in Vancouver in about 3 hrs. For the hour-and-a-half crossing of the waters of the Georgia Strait, the bus drives aboard the BC Ferries' boat in Swartz Bay, where you may dine in the cafeteria or just stroll and enjoy the gorgeous views of the Gulf Islands, until the announcement is made for bus passengers to reboard. I can't comment on other options but it's truly not a bad way between the 2 cities.

Linda, a more expensive, but equally scenic is to take a float plane from the inner harbour in victoria to coal harbour ( or the airport) in vancouver

There's a cheaper way. Take the #70 bus from Victoria to Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal.

Buy a ticket as a foot passenger.

When you get off the ferry in Tsawwassen, and leave the building, you will see the public buses that you can take into Vancouver. Look at the Trip Planner at http://www.translink.bc.ca to tell you the best way to get where you want to go.

This is somewhat cheaper than taking the Pacific Coach Lines, although not as convenient.

If time is less important than money, take the BC Transit bus ($2.25) then Translink buses (you will need exact chang up to $5 depending on your age and time of day) that may transfer to Canada Line to downtown Vancouver depending on when you are going! Canada Line connections do not start until after Labour Day. But be warned, trips door to door can take 5 hours using public transit, or as happened to me, this Thursday, 6 1/2 hours because of poor connections. Take a good book. Also best spot on ferry is by the business section--sixth deck in Sporit class, fifth deck on newer boats--far from the food and kids and with free computer plug ins. If you are lucky there are discarded newspapers to read in the recycled bin. Taking your own coffee mug and sandwich is another way to save money.
