Did anyone else see Primetime last night? They had a nice story about the 6000 people who were stranded there on 9/11. The town was almost doubled in size on that day and the whole town came out to help. <BR><BR>Does this make any of you Americans out there want to visit Newfoundland?<BR><BR>Just curious.

I saw it..brought a tear to my eye! I was very proud of being a Canadian and very proud of Gander...what a wonderful bunch of people who live there!

I thought it was a lovely piece. The people of Gander are so warm and giving, how lucky those stranded passengers were who landed there. I think this holds true for all of the people of Nfld. I remember reading a story about the filming of the Shipping News there and that many of the stars were so impressed that they purchased property.

I remember watching this piece on CBC a while back.. it definitely touched me, how the people of Gander opened up their city and their hearts to the weary travellers. Definitely made me proud to be canadian...

There you used to be a large american military base in Nfld. and I remember reading that more U.S. service men married "local girls" there, than any other U.S. base in the world!Just caught the end of the show last night but was very proud,we were also some pretty great hosts to 7000 stranded passengers here in Nova Scotia too!

Am I the only one that's noticed only Canadians have responded to this point. Never mind. Just like in Tehran in 1982 it's doing the right thing that's what counts. Not the kudos you get for it.

I saw it and marveled at the way the locals responded to the crisis. I also watched your memorial service for 9/11. IMO, it was the most touching of the many services. The music was lovely--I have tried to find out what was played but have not had any luck.

Missed Primetime, but did see an article in either Woman's Day or Family Circle magazine here in the 'States. Also, there were a lot of articles in our newspapers. All of which made me quite happy, because altho I'm a "come-from-away", Newfoundland has become my adopted "second home" since visiting there in 1998. We finally returned again in July -- not because of 9/11, but because we'd been planning to since '98.<BR><BR>I'm so glad that something good came out of 9/11, which is that the world got to see just how special Newfoundlanders are, and how special a place NF is.<BR><BR>BTW, we re-visited Gander, and finally got to tour the air museum -- fantastic!!! And also went to pay our respects to the memorial at the site of the Arrow Air disaster, which a lot of Americans have forgotten about. The memorial is simple, beautiful, and very moving.<BR><BR>Of course, NF has had a loooong history of helping out those in trouble; I've just finished reading Cassie Brown's excellent "Standing Into Danger".<BR><BR>Regards to all of you Newfoundlanders -- how I wish we were back there!!!
