Four nights in Halifax
 

We are arriving tomorrow in Halifax by boat. We will have no car but we have e-bikes. First time visiting. We will be at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, which I believe the address is in Purcells Cove. So everything will be by bus, bike, or taxi. My husband has a bad knee and. And can only walk about 2 miles before I start hearing words. We are foodies! Any advice or suggestions to fill our time before moving down the coast to Lunenburg. Then possibly Shelburne, Liverpool, Yarmouth.

The RNSYC is a great place to tie up, but it is quite a distance from the centre of Halifax. As an example, the Halifax waterfront is about 10 kilometres away, certainly too far for you to walk. There is bus service along Purcell's Cove Road, but it is a commuter service, running only on weekday mornings and afternoons. It will take you to the Mumford Road terminal, where you can transfer to other buses that will take you downtown. Taxis or your e-bikes will probably better meet your needs. Here are a few ideas for you to explore:

- Walk the Halifax waterfront. There is a boardwalk running from the Samuel Cunard statue to the Marriott Waterfront Hotel. Lots of interesting shops and cafés along the way. The round trip is probably within the limits of your husband's walking tolerance.

- Ferry ride to Dartmouth Alderney Gate terminal. Beautiful views of the harbour, and there are places to eat in downtown Dartmouth.

- Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is on the Halifax waterfront. Excellent history and displays.

- Pier 21, the immigration museum, also on the waterfront, tells the story of the who landed here over the years (my wife was one of them, landing from Poland in 1953).

- There is a farmers market at the Cunard Centre on the waterfront every Saturday morning. It's a popular and lively spot.

- Citadel Hill, great to stroll, with wonderful views out over the city.

- Point Pleasant Park, a popular retreat for walking or cycling https://www.halifax.ca/parks-recreat...-pleasant-park

- The Public Gardens, a small, elegant, and tranquil park in the middle of the city at the corner of Spring Garden Road and South Park.

As for restaurants, we haven't dined in the city since the start of the pandemic, so I'm afraid I am a bit out of date.
