Fois Gras?

We will be in Quebec City in the fall. We love going to Paris and having fois gras in so many nice restaurants. Will we be able to find this in Quebec City? Thanks.

Hi LyndaKaye30,

The fast answer is, "Yes."

About 30 minutes from Quebec City, in Saint-Apollinaire, is a foie gras producer. Their website is

http://www.canardgoulu.com/Site2008/index.htm

I don't know how your French is (or for others doing research) but from the menu on the left select "En ville" and it tells you they have a store in Quebec City (though they are mighty good at keeping the actual address to themselves). Clicking on, "Carte de localisation" will bring you to a map of their location (if you want to buy some).

As for restaurants, click on, "Partout ailleurs" and then, "Restaurants" for a list of where their products are being served. And this is just one producer.

If it is beyond your budget to have foie gras with a Sauternes, ask your server if they have Quebec Ice Cider (Pomme de Glace).

You should be able to get foie gras at any good restaurant in Québec City, but it is a specialty at Le Saint Amour. The foie gras and other duck products are locally raised.

Check their menu:

You might also try Panache in the Auberge Saint-Antoine:

The best fois gras we have ever had was at l'echeude in lower town. http://www.echaude.com

We had the table d'hote with wine pairings - just the best!!!

If you like foie gras, you should try "Le Toast", the specialty of their young imaginative chef.Look at the menu
