Flying into Vancouver--best way to get to Victoria?

Where is Tofino? We (two adults) have about 7 days and want to see highlights in Victoria. We have already been to Vancouver. Is it worth spending the whole time exploring Victoria and Vancouver Island? Is it possible to get to the ferry station in Vancouver without a car? It seems that you can do most things in Victoria without a car. Then maybe we could rent a car and expore the coast. Trying to put together an itinerary. Don't like to drive or rush around too much but have to admit it's tempting to spend some time driving out of Vancouver and into the mountains too. Ideas?

You can take a bus directly from downtown Vancouver to downtown Victoria. It goes on to the ferry; you disembark during the ferry trip and then get back on the bus for the trip into Victoria. If you don't want to spend any time in Vancouver, the bus also goes from the Vancouver airport. Have a look at the Pacific Coach Lines website for schedules.

Tofino is about 4 hours' drive from Victoria. You travel north on the highway, across the Malahat which is a scenic part of the road that goes through the mountains. I'd consider stopping at Parksville or Qualicum Beach for lunch. Then, take Highway 4 across to the west side of the Island. It's a very straightforward route.

You could easily spend a week exploring Victoria and Vancouver Island - depending on how much time you want to spend travelling, you wouldn't be bored even after 2 weeks!

If you just want to spend time on Vancouver Island, then why not fly directly to Victoria and skip having to land in Vancouver and take the ferry over.

Agreed.

Or if you can't make a direct flight catch one of the many short hops from YVR to YYJ.

If you do go to Tofino, be sure to take one of the boat trips out to the hot springs. Most enjoyable, but it's a long walk on a good wooden boardwalk to the springs. Take some goodies from the Tofino bakery on the boat with you as there's no food when you get there. We brought a small bottle of wine and downed it in the hot spring! Great memory.
