First trip to Vancouver

I'll be taking my first trip to Vancouver at the end of June for a Kiwanis Convention. I was going to stay another week on my own. Is there enough do to to fill a week? or should I travel to another area. I like to hike, kayak golf and enjoy museums and park.

Stay on in Vancouver would be my advice. We are visiting there in October, and a week is not enough to do all the things we would like to do. Not so sure about the accommodating of your first three interests but there are several museums and many parks in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island.

Lots to do. lots of golf. easy to go kayaking in false creek or off jericho beach. Lots of hiking opportunities, but would probably need a car to get to hikes. You could also consider an overnight trip to Whistler.

For a week, one possibility is Vancouver 4-5 nights, Victoria 2 nights. With your time frame and considering that you'll be in Vancouver for the convention as it is, you could even consider a brief stop in Victoria before heading to Tofino on Vancouver Island. This said, when I spent 4 full days in Vancouver a few years back, my days were quite full and I felt that I could have found plenty of additional interesting things to occupy my days, so you could easily enjoy Vancouver for the full time too and be perfectly happy. The Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver and the Royal BC Museum in Victoria were highlights as far as museums are concerned in the two cities. Have a great trip!

Plenty to do, you'll probably run out of time before destinations. Check out Stanley Park and if you like hiking try the Grouse Grind.

Note-the Grouse Grind is not in any way a hike-it's like walking up the fire exits in a 40 story building.

There are tonnes of hikes to be done here @ that time some accessible by transit but the GG is the last one I'd recommend to anyone I'd ever want to speak to again.

As mentioned Kayaking is widely available but splashing around False Creek looking @ concrete towers isn't most people's idea of a day on the water-try circumnavigating Bowen Island instead-again an easy bus ride then a short ferry from downtown.

There are a lot of thing to do in Vancouver. You wont get bored at all. If you are the outdoors activities type of person I suggest you go Kayaking and trekking. There are incredible paths you can follow for yourself or even ask in the front desk of your hotel. Everybody knows this in town. If for the contrary you are more like the indoor type of tourist there are tons of things to do. And also never forget to choose at least one classic restaurant per day. They are not very expensive –well, some are but the majority is not- and you will get to try the multicultural cuisine this is.

You could also go to Pacific Spirit Park. I wouldn't necessarily call it a hike, but there are plenty of walks through a pacific rainforest. Easy to get to on the bus system. I'd highly recommend it. you can walk for hours.

Thank you for all your advice and replies. I am going to stay in Vancouver for the entire week. Sounds like I will have a lot to keep me occupied.
