>>>We have a preference for B&B style accommodations, not really feeling at home in hotels and hotel chains.<<<

In Jasper there are a few B&Bs, but there are more "home accommodators." They are like B&Bs, except that they don’t serve breakfast. Some of the home accommodations come with kitchenettes, however. In addition to that, Jasper townsite has places where you can buy reasonably priced breakfasts.

Lake Louise unfortunately doesn’t have any B&Bs that I know of, and it’s not a reasonably priced place, at least not by my standards. You could try to see if you could find a B&B in the tiny town of Field, British Columbia.

Alternatively, you could find a B&B in Banff townsite or Canmore. Being further east, Banff and Canmore are not as centrally located with respect to mountain scenery, in my opinion, but they do offer a larger selection of accommodation. Canmore in particular has grown in recent years and has acquired a considerable stock of self-catering accommodation, which is something else you may be interested in. (Being just outside the national parks, Canmore does not have the constraints on its growth that the towns in the national parks do.) Borealis, who posts here, had a good experience at Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge in Canmore. I personally like Lady Macdonald Country Inn and Georgetown Inn, which are right across the street from each other in Canmore. Lady Macdonald has a dozen rooms, and Georgetown Inn has a couple of dozen rooms. Both places include sumptuous, cooked breakfasts in their rates.

However, perhaps I should warn you that even the B&Bs in the Canadian Rockies are not exactly cheap. The mountains are not a cheap region in which to stay, whichever way you slice it.

The only B&Bs with which I am personally familiar in Vancouver and Victoria are my friends’ homes, where I stay for free. :) However, if you do a word search here at Fodor’s there are many previous posts about B&Bs in those two cities.
