there are lots of threads with suggestions on this forum if you do a search.
Montreal has a very good tourism web site which lists major attractions and events http://www.tourisme-montreal.org/B2C/11/default.asp This recent article in Frommer's budget magazine has lots of good information http://budgettravel.com/bt-dyn/conte...060601739.html (Note there are separate listings for eat, shop and play suggestions) There is plenty to do--people could probably be more helpful if you gave an idea of your interests. |
we just got back from probably our 20th trip to Montreal. A few tips:
Don't make the mistake that many first timers do by not exploring the Plateau area. Yes, the Old City and port area is very scenic, and the downtown is busy and fun, but the most enjoyable part of the city (for us anyway) is the Plateau with it's countless shops, small byob restaurants and cafes, quiet tree lined streets, and very hip bars and dance clubs. The Botanical Gardens at the east end of the city are very beautiful if you enjoy this kind of thing. On our past few trips, we have discovered the joys of biking this great city. There are safe, easy bike trails cris crossing the city that will allow you to zip from the Plateau down to the waterfront in a few minutes. |
Hi ssweeney,
There is so much to do in Montreal...I'm sure you will love it! I would be sure to check out Old Montreal and the port area. There lots of cute shops and galleries and restaurants in that area, and its a beautiful spot to walk around and enjoy the day. I would definitely spend time walking around the downtown core...St Catherine St is really fun and lined with great stores to shop in and some great shopping complexes, as well as some fun cafes and places to grab a bite. After dark Crescent street is a lot of fun, there are lounges, bars, clubs, restaurants etc and many people walk along the street and hop from place to place. Its a fun way to enjoy a night in Montreal. The Plateau is also a great area that many people overlook on trips here. Great places to eat, a unique atmosphere....really cool vibe! Enjoy Montreal! I agree that the Plateau area is a really interesting neighborhood to explore. The description of this area on the tourism web site is at
