Ferry Nova Scotia to PEI

Is it necessary to reserve the ferry from Pictou to Wood Island? We will be travelling in August but are not exactly sure what day and/or time we would like to cross.

Thank you

You are not allowed to make one-way reservations from Caribou to Wood Islands.

You CAN reserve round-trip, as well as one-way PEI to NS.

If you do not have a reservation, you need to show up at least 45 minutes before the sailing you want. At peak times (such as the middle of the day or summer weekends) you might have to wait more than one sailing to get on without a reservation.

with the exception of the July Music Festival and Home Coming Week, there typically isn't a wait for the ferry, unless they have mechanical problems with one. The Confederation is the largest ferry and can accommodate mostly what is in holding pattern. It is a lovely trip and if you have a smooth sailing day, not uncommon to see porpoises and seals.
