Fernie or Kimberley
 

Hi,
My family and I will be taking a trip through the Northwest in November. We have out itenerary all set except for one night. I need to decide if we should spend it in Fernie or Kimberley. Which is a better town? Which is more scenic?

That is a hair I am not going to split.

i can't comment on fernie cause i've never been but i think kimberley is extremely dead except during the ski season.

Along with Ltt, I would guess that Kimberley would be dead in November. Summer activities will be over, and winter skiing likely will not have started.

But then I expect Fernie to be even more dead, if that's possible.

Even in a super popular place like Lake Louise, a highly sought after hotel, Deer Lodge, will be closed from October 11, 2004 through December 9, 2004.

Kimberley's population is something like 7,000, and Fernie's is something like 5,000.

You might find a bit more life in Cranbrook (population 20,000).

I don't think it matters which town is the most scenic. You'll see the scenery when you drive through the region. You won't see the scenery while you're sleeping. Sunset will be around 4.30 p.m., so you won't even see the scenery if you walk around the town in the evening.

Although I love small towns under some circumstances, in this case I would choose a town that is likely to offer a slightly larger selection of accommodation and restaurants at that time of year.

I'm not saying this from personal experience of the area in November, just guess work.

if you want something a little larger, cranbrook isn't far from kimberley.
but if you are just looking for a scenic place, you can rent some nice concos around kimberley for one night. probably have full kitchen and hot tub. so if you don't care about the town this may be what you want.
