Hi,

My wife and I are thinking about visiting Fernie this summer. Would be interested to know if Fernie has enough attractions, as interesting , etc. for a visit in the summer as it does during ski season.

That whole area has beautiful hiking, walking, mountain-biking, active travel type stuff, so if you enjoy those activities, you will enjoy Fernie. It is a gorgeous, remote, mountain environment and you could even expand your adventures into Golden/Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, the Purcells, Banff, Canmore and Kananaskis. I spent a long weekend in Golden and Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in late September and it was spectacular.

Well as a 20yr resident in Fernie and the owner of Fernie Central Reservations I may be the person who sells Fernie the most but let me give you a classic fernie quote... "you will come for the winetrs but you will stay for the summers". The best thing about Fernie is the range of activities we have to offer and all within minutes of town. Hiking, mountain biking (now a meca in western Canada) kyacking (right through town) rafting, site seeing, and our massive lake Koocanusa (over 90 miles long) only 15 minutes out of town. I was in Fernie last summer for a business trip and was fortunate enough to spend the night at the Island Lake Resort - a lodge right in the heart of the mountains. I went on a short hiking trail on my spare afternoon, but talked to the owners who talked about all the various day-trip hiking destinations one could do right from the resort's front door. That was just at the resort, not even the surrounding townsite or the other parks in the region. If you're into the outdoors, specifically hiking/walking, and such - I wouldn't hesitate. The place is spectacular.
