February weather question

Hi,

Which part of Canada will have the best weather for travel in February ?

Thanks.
Anu.

Hello Anu,

New Orleans.

Okay, I'm being facetious. But, honestly, the whole of Canada is anywhere from cool to downright frigid in February.

You can go skiing in February, of course. Also, if you go to a large city like Montreal or Toronto, you can occupy yourself indoors by shopping, going to museums, watching an ice hockey game, etc.

However, I saw that you'd asked this question in connection with European cities. In that post you said you and your husband would be travelling with your 2-year-old child.

I don't know if you are contemplating bringing your child to Canada in February. If so, I don't know how much fun you can expect to have.

If you really want to bring your child to Canada in February, perhaps Victoria on Vancouver Island is the least cold. The average daily high in February is 47 deg F. Rainfall over the month is 4 inches, spread over 16 precipitation days.

If you and your husband want to ski, some of the ski resort hotels do provide day care centres for young children while their parents are skiing. I saw one of those in operation when I stayed at Chateau Lake Louise a few years ago.

Here's a website that provides average monthly temperatures and rainfall for Canadian cities. On each page you can click a button to view the temperatures in Farenheit.

Hope that helps.

On the other hand, if you don't mind snowy winter weather - there are some winter festivals to consider.

For example - Winterlude in Ottawa, February 4 to 28, 2005:

Or - the Quebec winter carnival, Quebec City, January 28 to February 13, 2005:

February definitely visit Quebec city for Winter Carnival! The most wonderful party you will ever find but bring warm, warm, warm clothes!

You guys are getting me excited! My aunt and I are going to Quebec for the winter carnaval, and I can't wait. We have hotel reservations and flights booked - most of my friends think I'm crazy to go there in February - but the whole point is to experience something totally new for me!

Karen, I think it would be great fun to go to Quebec for the Carnival! I have rarely been anywhere with that much snow ( not counting NYC a few times)...and good French food to boot!
