Favorite Cape Breton Hiking Trails?
 

Well... we leave for Nova Scotia on Saturday. We have 5 days scheduled on Cape Breton and plan to spend a least a few out hiking. We're experience hikers and a bit of up and down won't both us. We're staying in Louisbourg for 2 nights and then in Cape Nort for 3.

Any favorite trails to recommend? We're definitely going to to Skyline and Middle Head has also been recommended to us.

Just finished checking this out for our own use: we leave Friday for two weeks and may do some hiking at Cape Breton Highlands National Park: here is the website...this is rough terrain in parts, be prudent and do check in and out!

I gues you already know that Louisbour is only partially open after this weekend?

I've done Skyline and L’ Acadien. L’ Acadien is a great walk. With 1000 ft plus of vertical ascent,it is a lot more challenging than Skyline, which is a really easy walk. If you do L’ Acadien, do it counter-clockwise, climbing up along the Cheticamp River in the steep-sided valley, giving you great vistas as you descend towards the coast.

the skyline trails is a very enjoyable, easy hike. there are two routes in...one that is more "sidewalk" and a more rustic one. definitly take the more woodsy/rustic one on the way in where you are likely to see some wildlife. at the end is a great spot to have a break/picnic. then you can choose to return on that route or go the more "paved" route. i'd describe it as more of a nice walk then a hike but it was very nice. saw too moose along the way. takes a couple of hours to enjoy.

Thx LTT... noticed that it can be done as a loop... guessing one side is the 'sidewalk' the other more of a trail. Always up for a 'walk' instead of a hike... adds some variety.
