Montreal's two fanciest hotels, Lowe's Gogue and the Ritz Carlton, may be too fancy for your group, especially the kids. But the next tier, including the Queen Elizabeth, the Westin Mount Royal, the Intercontinental, the Hilton are all well located, very comfortable, friendly toward well-behaved kids, etc. The Hitlon has an indoor-outdoor pool, and would be the one I'd like if I was 12. The hideen gem for the 12 year old may be the insectarium (bug museum) which is part of a multi-attraction package of botanical gardens, etc., near the Olympic Stadium. Old Montreal will be popular with everyone; there's a fancy Casino if you like gambling. Consider a harbour boat tour. When walking, the east end of St. Catherine's street is pretty grungy, but, forthe most part, you'll find it a pleasant, exciting, safe city. If you are jewish, you'll want Montreal bagels and Montreal smoked meat. And if you aren't,you'llwant to see and taste, how Monteal's jewish community developed wonderful bagels and smoked meat. Try Swartz's on St. Lawrence. Stand in line to get in, share a table.
