Exploring PEI in two days and one night
I am planing the PEI segment of our 9 day road trip to NB & PEI in August. We will probably stay at Canada's Best Value Inn and Suites in Summerside because none of the nice places in Charlottetown take dogs. Is Summerside a better choice that Cavendish or someplace else? What do you recommend for a day and a half of touring in PEI? Beaches are not our priority; we like art, crafts, photography, museums, culture...

Suggestions for scenic drives & restaurants will be appreciated!

You might get some ideas of places of interest at Check the provincial site for PEI to get a schedule of events in August during your visit. August has the "Old Home Week" and related events. Founders Hall in Charlottetown has exhibits portraying the history and a visit to Province House might be of interest.

Other heritage museums are scattered around the island including Basin Head, Elmira, Green Park, North Cape, etc. In August there are fairs in Charlottetown, Dundas (a favorite) and a pow-wow in the Panmure Island area. Much fun - enjoy!

A drive in Prince Edward Island National Park east of Cavendish would be lovely; the vistas of cliffs are just delightful (if you like cycling, this was a stellar place to be doing so; bike rental is available at the Petro Canada kitty corner to the tourist information centre in Cavendish a block away from Anne of Green Gables House). A stop at Anne of Green Gables House might be interesting if you're curious about Lucy Maud Montgomery's world.

For unpretentious Maritime ambience and seafood, I enjoyed the Water-Prince Corner Shop in Charlottetown. A few blocks away, the Formosa Tea House also had tasty vegetarian fare if this is your preference.

Best wishes, Daniel
