Enterprise Car Rental - Calgary

OK my turn now to ask for advice.
In checking rental car prices in Calgary, those at the airport are much higher than the contract I was offered by Enterprise at an off airport location.

Anybody out there familiar with Enterprise?
I have heard the cars aren't so great and that you get pressured to take the CDW.

I'm not familiar with Enterprise but have you tried going through Priceline for a car? We always use it and have had some real deals.

The information above is very helpful, particularly if I find out that Enterprise might be a problem. Right now, it is offering me the best price.

Farther question: is there a way with Hotline to find out in advance which agency will be the actual provider? I don't react too quickly to an anymous deal at the start, make a pledge, and then find out the rental is with some company I don't want to deal with.

Priceline offered Alamo, and that runs up a red flag with me.

I am curious why you think there is a problem with Alamo. We have used them many times without a problem and have booked them through the Costco travel website as well as using Priceline. Have you had a bad experience?

According to hotwire.com, they use Hertz, Avis & Budget only.

Of course you won't know which one exactly you'll get.

No personal bad experiences with Alamo.
I have heard reports of snags and extra charges in the past. Perhaps the problems have been cleared up.

I've only used Enterprise here in BC-never any probs of any kind and never any pressure to buy any insurance I didn't need/want when I used my CC to rent/cover myself.
In fact the staff are nothing but polite friendly and professional.
The low end cars are dogs-that's why they're cheap-from any company

Thanks Sam. The rate I have is very good. I think I will stick with it.
The only hang-up is that if I drive the car into Montana, I have to agree to a kilometer limit with extra charges for going over the limit. As long as I stay within Alberta and the adjacent mountain parks, I am ok with the distance limit.

The only company that gave me a pressure job was Snappy. First it did not have the car I wanted (a Ford) and issued me a Cadillac Seville. I did not like the car or the reception I got. I am a Toyota mentality guy, and I was not prepared for the Cadillac reception I got where I went!

In retrospect, I thought one incident amusing. I drove up to register at the Paradise Lodge on the flank of Mt. Ranier. A couple of cars were ahead of me unloading. The bellhops with the luggage carts were semi helping. Then I drove up and they came running over, luggage carts at the ready.

I am sure they expected a rich guy with a big tip. Sorry, just a Ford guy who had to take what he could get.

Also in retrospect, I should have declined the car, but we wanted to get on with the trip.

Hi Bob.

I just used Enterprise near the Calgary airport about a month ago. Car was fine, rate was the best I could find on the Net, and the staff was great. They have free shuttle service from the airport terminal. They gave me a free bottle of cold water on the shuttle ride. They even dropped me off at the train station going to downtown Calgary free of charge after I returned the car.

Have a great time in Alberta. The Rockies are INCREDIBLE!!!
