Embassy Suites Hotel-Niagara Falls, Ontario

Has anyone stayed here? It's only about a year old, and I'd like others opinions.

If you have no luck here, try www.travelocity.com - there are currently 18 reviews on there, or www.tripadvisor.com where there are 62 generally positive reviews.

Thanks, Dave, for your help. I got lots of good info from tripadvisor.com, but couldn't get anything from travelocity.com--probably because of my limited computer skills. Thanks again!

We were there this week on a 2 day pkg so I'll offer a few comments. The hotel has been open only 8 months which explains the lack of posted opinons.

The location is excellent -- view from the fallsview rooms is spectacular -- a panorama of both Horseshoe and American Falls. In my opinion it probably has better views of the falls than the other hotels in that area. Rooms are spacious and well appointed, very clean and new but perhaps not as luxurious in decor as some other properties we've stayed at. Everything worked, buffet breakfast was adequate, valet parking was efficient, staff friendly and helpful. TGIFriday's and Starbucks on site, but with grievously inflated prices of course.

The plus for this property is location -- once Murray Hill reopens to foot traffic. Because of the new casino construction next door, normal access via Murray Hill is restricted to off-work hours. If you want to access the falls you have to walk across the back of the Skylon Tower, and go down Clifton Hill.

Anything else?

What did you think of the $20 parking fee? I saw in a review that it's a good idea to get an itemized bill, as they sneak in a $30 levy charged by the tourist bureau. This can be refunded. Does this sound right?? Thanks for your comments. All in all the reviews that Dave mentioned were mostly positive.

I'm never thrilled with a parking levy but unfortunately it's rapidly becoming the norm in any large city or tourist area where space is at a premium. I did feel the included valet service provided at Embassy Suites was very efficient, unlike other hotels where you can experience a long wait even though you pay extra for this convenience.

The tourist levy is news to me, and there was no mention of that. Are you certain that this person isn't referring to tax? I would never check out of any hotel without receiving an itemized statement -- a copy was slid under our door in the night -- standard practice in my experience.

We don't mind paying for parking, but this does seem excessive. As for the levy, according to the review I read it was not a government tax. We've always gotten an itemized bill in our travels as well, but I thought this might have been a practice in some hotels in Canada. Although, come to think of it, that wasn't the case in Montreal. Anyway, we're looking forward to a nice little get-away after Easter.
