Any suggestions or comments on places to eat in Tofino? On our last visit, about 5 years ago, we liked the Rainforest Cafe. Is it still good? Prefer moderate priced meals, so won't be going to The Point.

I loved the Rainforest Cafe and the Common Loaf. Try the Tofino bars.

I was just at the Raincoast Cafe (I think that's the place you mean) in December and it was as good as I'd remembered from several years previously.

I had wanted to try Sobo at the Botanical Gardens, as I've heard good things about it, but it was closed at Christmas.

Yes, I did mean Raincoast, not forest, Cafe.

Any places that are especially good for fish?

Oh of course you are right, it is Raincoast. And the halibut was fantastic.

Raincoast had several seafood dishes available when we were there. I also had the halibut and enjoyed it very much.

Shelter and the Schooner are a couple of other possibilities for good seafood although I'm thinking they are a little more pricey than Raincoast but not as pricey as the Pointe.

And I really enjoy the family-style "West Coast Suppers" the Middle Beach Lodge puts on, especially when they have fresh salmon or Dungeness crab. Last I heard, those were available to non-guests on a space available basis, so assuming you're not staying there, I'd call when you get there and ask what the menu is for the nights you're in town and whether they have space available.

I tried to find something abot the home style dinners at Middle Beach and didn't see anything about food. Do you have a name for their restaurant or possible website?

I looked at their website also and there's no mention made but I know they were doing the dinners as recently as this past Christmas. I'd give them a call or send them an email.

Should probably start a new post, but have you stayed at Middle Beach? Their website says the rooms are "small, but cozy" so would like opinions on this. No TV or phone isn't a problem.

Yes, I've stayed there 4 or 5 times, in a number of different cabins and room types. The rooms at the original lodge are quite small, but they're very comfortable and there's a big common room in the lodge where you can sit and read if you prefer. If you're going in the summer time, you're going to be outside most of the time, anyway. The cabins and the rooms at the newer (Headlands) lodge vary but the cabins especially have plenty of room to spread out in.

The communal dinners are only on the
weekend in the off-season (if there
is such a thing - it's always full
when we're there).

Another vote for the Rainforest plus
a recco for Sobo's fish tacos and
salmon chowder - really, really
good food in a funky setting.

I agree, our fav is the Raincoast Cafe hands down.
The pointe is overrated and not great food. Just to mention, the Common Loaf is gone, we were there at Christmas and yeah its history, too bad..
If you wanted to drive a little for something different, the boat basin in Ucluelet is nice, romantic, though not that cheap.

It all depends on what you consider moderate. We stayed at the Wick (and had lunch at the Pointe) on our honeymoon nearly two years ago, and although we loved Raincoast and a couple other places, they seemed hefty after you added a little wine and dessert.

Breakers was great for pre-hiking breakfasts, great wraps, excellent baked goods and strong coffee. It's more of a to-go, though there were stools along the wall.

We also loved Trilogy for salmon and other fish products; we bought a trio of different smoked fishes and a bottle of wine and went back to the inn and watched the rain.

Also, there was a great place in Ucelet on the way to the nat'l park that was an old house. The best salmon benedict you can imagine--we hiked for hours afterwards without getting hungry.

All this thinking about great food in Tofino makes me want to go back. Have fun!
