Earthquakes

We noticed in the news there was recent seismic activity off the shores of British Columbia. Just wondering where the quakes were felt inland? Vancouver? Whistler? Victoria?

CBC reported:
Three earthquakes between 4.7 and 5.1 magnitude were detected north of Vancouver Island Friday morning.According to Earthquakes Canada, the aftershocks to Wednesday’s quake struck south of Haida Gwaii starting at 5:51 a.m. The second quake was reported at 5:58 a.m. and the third at 6:02 a.m.Earthquakes Canada said the first had a magnitude of 4.9, the second was 5.1 and the third was 4.7.No tsunami is expected, Emergency Info B.C. said. There were also no reports of damage and scattered reports from people who said they felt the shaking. The three quakes come after a 5.8 magnitude earthquake was detected in the same area on Wednesday night. The quakes off the B.C. coast are not linked to the 6.4 magnitude earthquake on Thursday in southern California, the most powerful to hit the state in 20 years.

Thank you, piemmesplumbing. Perhaps you live in one of the towns I mentioned. I am hoping that locals or visitors who were there at the time of the quakes can advise what they personally experienced.

P.S. We are asking if locals or visitors felt the seismic activity from off the coast of British Columbia in those towns because we will visit in early autumn and would like to know what we might expect should the same recur. Hoping as well the wildfires will be done, but we realize there is no way to predict either seismic activity or wildfires. Thanks for your patience with what may seem like frivolous questions.

Earthquake activity is basically constant, but mostly not really noticeable.

I think that I have maybe felt three earthquakes in the last past 40 years, and those were just minor shaking. Lots of little ones are a good thing. I would not worry about earthquakes here, but of course we have been waiting for the 'big one' for decades now. May or may not ever come.

Thanks for the kind responses, everyone. That's just what we needed to know.
