Driving to Tofino. Good 1/2 way spot for the nite to break up the drive?

Hi,
We're driving from Victoria to Middle Beach Lodge in Tofino next week & my husband is concerned that it's too long a drive (due to health issues). Is there a pretty spot you can recommend that's half way there so we can spend the nite, to break up the 5-6 hour drive?
Looking at the map I saw towns like Port Alberni, Parksville or Bamfield. Would any of these places be a good stopping point? Any suggestions as far as must see's or accommodations in this area?
Thank you in advance!

Bamfield is not on the way to Tofino, it is in another direction. I would stop in Parksville. There are some nice places on the beach, not sure what your budget is.

The Beach Club is gorgeous. http://www.beachclubbc.com/

from there you can drive through Coombs and stop at the Coombs market

and then stop at Cathedral Grove , (Mc Millan Park) which is old growth forests.

as far as must sees, would need to know about your interests. The two above are what most people enjoy.

original lodge or lodge at the headlands? if it's the room i'm thinking of in the original lodge, those rooms are very basic. personally i like the simplicity but if your husband likes lots of bells and whistles it may not be a good fit.

I stayed in one of those lodge rooms and at first found it very charming, but on second look realized it was very basic as you say. I also remember it being very small.
