Driving to La Malbaie in winter?
Has anyone driven to La Malbaie or elsewhere in the region from Montreal (or other points southwest) during the winter?
I realize that I can't predict when there will be a blustering snow storm, but barring a total whiteout or ice storm, are the conditions generally good for driving? (Most hotels seem to require a $50 reservation deposit and their policies don't say anything cancelling on account of storms.) |
I've done it many times. No problem under normal conditions. Roads are well cleared and there's lots of traffic so pavement dries out quickly. In a good snowstorm, visibility between Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré and Baie St-Paul can be very low. It can be foggy in the area as well (except when going through St-Tite-des-Caps. Given the same weather, visibility on road 138 between Baie-St-Paul and La Malbaie is better but the road is narrower. I've never driven on the 362 during winter so I don't know.
