Driving to Fort ST. John
 

HI Members,
I'm moving from Vancouver to Fort ST. John, BC on beginning of December and I'm thinking of driving my own car during that long trip. if you can help me with the following:
-I'm driving a Toyota Yaris (fairly small car), can this car make it to Fort ST. John.
-Is there plenty of gas stations on the road (my tank is only 45 LT.)
-If anyone lives up there, what is the average monthly rentals for 1 person (studio,1 bedroom apartment, basement suites, 1 room with private bath) etc.

Finally any other tips like type of clothes needed (first time to move to that rough weather) will be helpful.

Try to cover your journey with powerful jeep, because in St. John roads are very steep hairpin turn.

I would be very surprised if Jhon_Carter has ever been anywhere near Fort St. John.

and while 4WD might help the cause there, I think the old-school "Jeep" might be a bit too drafty for the local air.



PS - I stopped for lunch in <i>Fort St. John</i> once...

when you were there were you able to search far enough to find a place steep enough to justify a hairpin curve?

The only thing I <i>found</i> in Fort St. John was the <b>Boston Pizza</b>!!!

And, in hindsight, that is <b>all that mattered</b>.



My day had begun in Chetwynd, watching weather reports of horror all across Canada: <I>floods in Nova Scotia</i> and terrible <I>blizzards in Alberta and the prairies</i>.

... and here I was, heading <I>northwest toward Alaska</I> with nothing but a rental sedan and a <b>large ice scraper</b> (hey, I read <I>The Milepost</i>!)

But I reckon you don't neeeeeeeed hairpin turns on the only road for miles around... <I>except at that one spot, just entering the mountains</i>...

(though sometimes you've gotta <I>make</i> hairpin turns around the bison and elk in the middle of the roadway)
