Driving Montreal to Quebec
 

I have a full day to drive from Montreal to Quebec and would like to stop somewhere in between. Does anyone have suggestions such as Parks, towns, etc.?

There is nothing in between if you take Autoroute 20 south of the river. Autoroute 40 on the north side goes through Trois-Rivieres. Never been there, but have watched some car races on city streets on TV. Seems like a pretty nice town to stop briefly halfway between Montreal and Quebec.

I haven't heard much there's much to do in Trois-Rivieres. Have you visited any Parks around there?

The less boring route is probably road 138 on the north shore. Lots of rest areas with view on the river. I think it's possible to take boat trip around Sorel islands... but I don't know... like most, I usually take the highway and drive as fast as possible.

There's a small park north of Louiseville (road 348) with a nice waterfall (see: http://membres.lycos.fr/dancha/photo.htm ). Île St-Quentin in Trois-Rivières is popular among locals but I've never been there myself.

Road 138 is a nice road to see the coutryside and St-Lawrence river but don't expect anything spectacular.

I answered one of your previous posts on La Mauricie and...take the 40 to Yamachiche, and then the 153 and 351 to St-Mathieu. There will be signs to the western entrance of La Mauricie National Park. Have a relaxing drive through the park, have a picnic if it's not too buggy, or stop for lunch at St-Jean-des-Piles. If it's too early for lunch, drive to Trois Rivieres which has a great selection of restaurants crammed into a walkable area. From there take the 138 to Quebec. Or cross the bridge and take the 132 (in my opinion, more scenic than the 138 between Trois Rivieres and Quebec). If you are hungry in the late afternoon stop in St-Antoine-de-Tilly at the Bergeron cheese factory and buy some curds made from Canadian Gouda. And if there is still time, stop at Chute de la Chaudiere before you cross the river into Quebec. This if a very full day.

Thanks JQ, sounds like a full day is in store. It seems like La Mauricie will be a good alternative.
