Driving from Toronto to Buffalo
I'm thinking of driving from Toronto to Buffalo to catch a flight at 3pm on a thursday. Will I have a problem driving this route? Do you think there will be much traffic? Can I do it in 2 hours?
Thanks |
If you leave TO by 11am, that will give you plenty of time for the drive, customs at the border, possible weather, as well as a cushion for airport check-in,parking, security, and time for lunch before your flight.
Traffic is heaviest coming out of TO and much lighter as you reach Buffalo. |
Gary,
Thank you very much for your reply, however I made a mistake - my flight is at 6:45 and I'm leaving toronto at 3pm, still possible? |
No problem... you will run into some rush hour traffic at the I-290 and I-90 merge but that is only one exit from the Buffalo airport... Leaving TO later will actually make for a shorter trip...

The rush hour traffic starts in Toronto about 2 pm. As you drive past the FOrd Plant in Oakville, it can be really busy starting after 2. SO , 3 pm is the latest I would leave, incase you get help up here a bit and through Burlington, which can be slow.
Once you are over the Burlington Skyway, and past Centennial Parkway, you should be home free. Oh, but if it's this Thursday, definately no probelm, the roads will be very lighly travelled. |
You are banking pretty heavily on customs having short lines. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. And it's not easy to predict.

a customs back-up on a Thursday afternoon would be pretty rare if you use the Queenston bridge... unless there is an unforseen accident or incident...
