Drive to Nova Scotia? Help
 

Can we drive from new york to nova scotia or new brunswick? I notice that rte 95 goes up through maine but I can't make out where it goes from there. My wife and I want to motor to these areas and haven't the faintest idea what it would be like. We also have a small dog. are these motels amenable to dogs or not? Thanks in advance.

Check with vet about health certificate and rabies certificate to take animal to Canada. Consider taking ferry, either from Portland or Bar Harbor, ME

95 heads into New Brunswick to PEI and Nova Scotia. As the previous poster mentioned, you can also catch a ferry from Portland or Bar Harbor, Maine-not sure about taking pets. Alternatively, the drive to Atlantic Canada is long but scenic, and you choice a choice of routes.

I am thinking that the I95 ends in Houlton, from there you can cross to New Brunswick, and take the Trans Canada Highway. In NB it is route 2. Make sure to stop in Fredericton, and go to Saint John, get onto the Fundy drive which I think is route 1. The other way is to go to Calais Maine, and cross at St. Stephan NB and take route 1 from there all the way to Moncton. This is the fundy trail the whole way. make sure to stop at Fundy National Park and visit Hopewell rocks where you can walk on the ocean floor.

The ferry is enjoyable also, but wouldn't allow you to tour New Brunsick.<BR>Question for Melissa {or others}: it appears that there are at least two other roads leading from Lincoln to Fredericton,NB, alt 2 and 6. Are either of these good alternatives?

do you mean Lincoln NB? If you do that is where our airport is and we just consider that as part of the city. Please clarify

Sorry, Melissa.<BR>No, I was actually referring to Lincoln, Maine, which isn't far from the NB border (Between Bangor,and Houlton, Me.}. That is the point that the road diverges east on 6 and alt 2.<BR>Sorry for the confusion!

I was looking at a map of NB, and I can't find route 6. Route 2 is what I always take from Woodstock

Hi Melissa,<BR>I'm actually looking at an Atlantic Canada map, which also includes portions of northern Maine.<BR>The routes alternative 2 and 6 that I was referring to begin and end in Maine and sort of parallel 95. Alt 2 ends at Houlton, while 6 becomes 4 and then 3 in New Brunswick. <BR>They look like alternative, though probably slower, routes to take from northern Maine to New Brunsick.<BR>Thanks! Molly

We have found the fastest (definitely not the most scenic) route to take 95 to Bangor and then 9 to Calais ME. There you cross into NB. From here you can go straight through NB to NS and explore NB on the way back. Or you can explore some excellent places in NB such as St. Andrews and the southern shore. You can also head north from there to some beatful parts of NB but I'm not sure of the highway number. I just received some tourism info from NB which is excellent. Molly, I found what you were looking at on a map last night, That road you were talking about rt 4 and 3 in NB, has nothing on it...not unless you like looking at trees.

LOL - Thanks, Melissa!<BR>Hmmm, I guess it depends what the alternative to "trees" is! {:<BR>I've taken the route Bluenoser described as far east as Blacks Harbour - very pretty little towns, but slow-going. Looks like it's quicker farther along.
