drive from vancouver to jasper

My husband and I are planning a 10 day trip to the Canadian Rockies and are considering flying to Vancouver and then driving to Jasper and Banff. We would like to spend one night along the way. How difficult of a drive is it.....ie, how much is very windy and where do you recommend that we stop on the way to Jasper/

I don't know when you are planning on traveling but it is a very easy drive to Jasper from Vancouver. We usually stop at Valemount which is a fairly small town but has some good accommodation. It isn't far from there to Jasper but it breaks the drive. The Yellowhead highway is very very easy - and wind has never been a problem.

I usually think of Vancouver to Jasper as about nine hours, assuming gas and bathroom stops. If you are travelling in the winter months - October to May???? - you may run into poor road conditions in the higher mountain areas. There are not many 'destination stops' on this trip although it is very scenic. Half way, if you want to stop for the night, is probably Clearwater where there are adequaquate motels. The Wells Gray Park is close by there but I am not familiar with it. I believe it is a bit of a side trip.

Plan a circle -- Vancouver to JAsper to Banff -- then a side trip to Clagary, and then back to Vancouver.

Highways are fine most of the year.

How long it takes depends on how long you stop to enjoy the scenery.

i think clearwater is a nice place to stop. (many stop in kamloops which is fine if you just want a place to sleep but rather dull in my opinion.) you will get there early enough so you can enjoy the evening, then i'd get up early and take a quick trip to well's grey and onto jasper. there are also a a motel or two right outside of the park gates at wells grey.
