Drive from Toronto to Boston
Hi
We are flying in to Toronto (late September to mid October) and will be spending around 22 days in Toronto and New England. We intend to drive from Toronto to Boston, Massachusetts and we are aware that it is a real long drive. Is there any small towns we can stop over for a night before proceeding the journey? Thanks |
the fast way (through niagara falls and down through rochester / syracuse), there isn't much to see... though niagara on the lake is a great spot along the way, great hotels, wine country, restaurants, etc... (but it's really only about an hour from toronto, so it doesn't make the next day's drive much less painful.
the longer way (by about 2.5 hours) would be much more scenic that time of year - head east from toronto along the st lawrence river... cross the bridge at ogdensburg and head south through the adirondacks - much prettier and you may get to see the leaves changing color. lake placid is a great spot to spend a night, or a couple days... it's about half way (on the long route) about 6 hrs from toronto... enjoy the drive. |
If I understand correctly, you will be spending some days in Toronto and are looking for a halfway spot to separate the drive... if that is the case, consider the Finger Lakes and a stop at Geneva on the Lake, an Historic hotel on the Lake...
Although Geneva is less than half way to Boston, you will have some delay in traffic leaving Toronto, construction at the QEW,and customs at Niagara Falls... it will be a welcome stop and is near many historical sites... good luck! |
I endorse Garyt22's suggestion and would add that the area around Rochester is interesting, too. A day or two enroute to explore the Rochester/Finger Lakes area would make the trip much more enjoyable than just slamming through.
