reservations are made its time to pack what kind of clothes will we need july 17-23 we like to eat nice but on vacation jacket and tie is unacceptable to my hubby. there are 2 of us any restaurants to suggest in vancouver or victoria this forum has been sooooo helpful. thanks again.

Overall Vancouver and Victoria are typical West Coast cities ie casual. Layers are good because it's often cooler near the ocean. Weather for the next few days is supposed to be pretty mild, around 23C with chance of showers. Down to around 16C overnight.

If your husband refuses to wear a jacket and tie on vacation then just don't go to places that require a jacket and tie.

Pagliacci's in Victoria is popular for pasta/pizza. Incendio West in Vancouver likewise (although it's not downtown) There's an Incendio in Gastown too but I like the other location.
If you like sushi try Tojo's in Vanc. Some others resturants I like here are Tapastree, Raincity Grill, Blue Water Cafe.

Not sure about dress code for these ones as I honestly have been only once or twice and paid little attention to dress: The Tea House and the Fish House in Stanley Park are good too.

Milestone's and Earl's are casual chains that are consistently decent. Branches on Robson Street.

Ditto to everything taggie says. The West Coast is generally pretty relaxed (of course, there are places where jacket and tie are de rigeur, but you can avoid all those and still have a great holiday).

There are a wealth of excellent Indian restaurants in Vancouver. I'm not sure whereabouts in Vancouver you're staying, but one of my favourites is Indica, in the West End, 1795 Pendrell (corner of Denman and Pendrell). The menu is mostly Punjabi but other north Indian and some south Indian items are generally included. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service friendly. We go there about once a month. Maybe we'll even run into you!

Also in Vancouver's West End is Kafé Europa (735 Denman, at the corner of Denman and Robson). The menu is mostly central European. The restaurant is small and casual. The food is great (and very filling). Actually, just about anywhere you turn in downtown or the West End you'll run into good restaurants.

As taggie mentioned, Bacchus in the Wedgewood Hotel is good. I've only been there for lunch and post-work drinks, not dinner, but I imagine the dinner menu is just as decent. Maybe a little on the formal side. But the room itself is elegant and relaxing and the service has always been great.

We were in Vancouver on July 12-13, and it was hot! We are used to heat, because we are from Texas. Just guessing, I'd say it was 80F, but TV showed the temp in centigrade. Most people out walking had on jeans or shorts, t-shirts or tank tops. Your husband should be able to get by with casual slacks and a short-sleeved shirt.
