Downtown Toronto Parking

Any recommendations for weekend (Fri afternoon -Sun noon) parking just south of downtown, staying @ the NOVOTEL Yonge/The Esplanade, looking for some reasonable surface lots.
Thanks!

You can park underground on weekends for a flat rate of just $5 per 24 hours at 35 Church Street, just northeast of the Church and Front intersection. This rate starts from 5:00 Friday afternoons but there are no in an out privileges.

The Hot House Cafe at this same location offers a great Sunday jazz brunch, by the way, but you need to book ahead as it's very popular.

There is a large covered car park just east of the hotel on The Esplanade. There may be a cheaper option in the area - check with the hotel - but the high temperature tomorrow is going to be -13 C (12 F) so you want to be close.

Moolyn's advice is good -- I've parked there following her instructions, but not to walk to the Novatel in freezing weather.

That said, it's only about a five minute walk, but don't forget to drop off luggage at the hotel first.

The city of Toronto owns a parking company with a big green P as its symbol, and this is frequently the lowest priced parking in a particular area.

The garage mentioned as being east of the hotel stretches back behind the hotel, so you can leave the garage and walk out so that you are immediately beside the hotel, making for a short walk.

Toronto parking rates in many surface lots change over the course of the day, and vary depending on neighborhood activities. The Green P lots are more consistent.

Before you commit to one of these places, make sure you check the hotel's own lot. It's unlikely, but there may be a bargain, or a premium that's worth paying on a day that is really cold.

And cars start more esily from underground, semi-warm, garages.
