Doubletree Plaza Hotel Montreal
 

can anyone tell me if it is good hotel and location?

I've never stayed in this particular hotel, but I've stayed right near it. Great downtown location - 2 blocks to all the shopping on St. Catherine, 1 1/2 blocks to the Metro, 15 minute walk to the plateau area.

Have you given up your idea of the Dauphin? It is much closer to Old Montreal for walking.

As for the Doubletree (corner Berri and Sherbrooke East), it is right aroung the corner from a metro station (Sherbrooke), and is a direct two or three stops (depending where you are going) to Old Montreal (the Dauphin is right around the corner from the third stop).

I think that perhaps zootsi (a regular visitor to Montreal with excellent advice) has confused the Doubletree with the cluster of hotels on Sherbrooke west of Parc/Bleury. The Doubletree is on the southern edge of Le Plateau and next to the Quartier Latin. It is a long three blocks down to Ste-Catherine (crossing Ontario and de Maisonneuve). Ste-Catherine street in this area has the Gay Village if you turn left (east) and a seedy area if you turn right (west) until St-Urbain (ten to fifteen minutes to walk through), where the outdoor Jazz Fest site is located. It is only beyond this that the shopping really gets serious. Of course you can skirt this area and some time by walking along Sherbrooke.

A plus for the Doubletree at the time of year you are visiting is its proximity to Prince Arthur St--lots of restaurants on a pleasant pedestrian walk.

Hi JQ, Hotel Dauphin Downtown Montreal -my understanding is new hotel open in Desember. you are the first person who respond on this hotel,so wright now i have a delema. i am thinking between Hotel Dauphin downtown,Holliday Inn Midtown and Hotel la Residece Du Voyageur .which shuld I pick?please HELP!!

oops! You are correct - the Doubletree used to be the Crowne Plaza, on the edge of the Plateau. This is an excellent location (at least for me it would be), very close to the interesting shops, cafes, and restaurants in the Plateau area. And the Metro is virtually in the same building as the hotel. You can walk to the downtown (15 minutes) and the old city (20-25 minutes). The Residance du Voyaguer is very close by, but is MUCH simpler - it's ok if you are on a tight budget.
The Holiday Inn Midtown is in the area I described in my previous post - close to St. Catherine shopping.
Either the Doubletree (near the Plateau) or the Holiday Inn (downtown) would be fine for me, but I'd probably choose the Doubletree, especially in mild weather when walking is enjoyable.
I'm not familiar with the Dauphin, but the area is a little less interesting than either the Doubletree or Holiday Inn - however it IS closer to the Old City.
