Does Lake Huron cause lake-effect snow?

Buffalo, NY was just pounded with 7' of snow. Cleveland and other U.S. cities usually gets a pounding or two a year from lake-effect snow.

Since the eastern side of Lake Huron is in Ontario, the U.S. weather doesn't cover what happens. It's seems to me that lake-effect snow would be worse from Lake Huron than Lake Erie or Lake Ontario. Does (or Where in)southern Ontario get blasted by snow?

Hi Emily:
Yes the whole world knows it when Buffalo gets snow. We here in the traditional snow belts of Ontario just grin and bear it. I live in a small town on Georgian Bay which is technically part of Lake Huron. We have been "pounded" since Boxing Day (26th December to those non Canadians) with 60cms of lake effect snow. This area is considered one of the snow belts of Ontario. The traditional snow belt areas are normally buried in snow but it is just part of life and doesn't make much in the way of news reports.
But the non snow belt areas of the province (those that aren't subject to this freak of nature receive much less of the white stuff than us. For example, just 45 minutes south of us towards the city of Toronto there is absolutely no snow as yet.
Just to let Buffalo know, the city of Toronto has just sent a team of snow ploughs to Buffalo to help them dig out.
You might want to check out Canada's weather TV station's website for further info. www.theweathernetwork.com.
Happy holidays.
Regards,
Lynn
