Dining with Kids in Quebec City
We will be in Quebec City the last week in March with our kids, ages 11 and 10. Most of the restaurant recommendations I can find on the forums are for upscale restaurants that just wouldn't be appropriate for our situation.
Any recommendations for casual, decent restaurants that would be good for kids too? Our kids are decent eaters, one much more adventurous than the other (who would eat red meat and good french bread at every meal if we let him). We are staying in the Old City. Thanks! |
There is/was a creperie a litle ways from the chateau. As I remember the crepes were good, many choices and reasonable. The Chateau will have cafes that are not upscale and there will be many small places available below the cliff..Try trip advisor or google kid friendly in Quebec City.

The restaurant referred to above is the "Creperie le Petit Chateau" on Rue St.Louis, adjacent to Le Chateau Frontenac. It serves 60 varieties of delicious crepes in a casual atmosphere and is very affordable.
Another place I would recommend is in the lower town,"Le Cochon Dingue" on Boul. Champlain. They have a great breakfast menu and later in the day they serve sandwiches, pasta, steak & fries, etc. Again, casual and friendly atmosphere with reasonable prices. It's extremely popular on weekends and I would advise making a reservation. |
Cochin dingue is a good choice. For something a little nicer, Le Lapin Saute across the Petit Champlain.
Do not go to the creperie next to the Chateau Frontenac, it is awful. You could also go to Les Freres de la Cote. It is lively and popular. |
These are great, thanks!

The Cafe Boulangerie Paillard on Rue St. Jean in the Upper Town has good sandwiches and pastries

Excellent, thanks!

If you want real crepes, you should consider Le Bilig on the Rue St Jean. It is outside the gates (about a 10 minute walk from the bus loop (I regularly do it from the Frontenac and it takes about 20 minutes). It is a small neighborhood place and the crepes are authentic. I am regularly in Quebec City and I found this place through Chowhound. I also traveled with my kids when they were the same age as yours (and younger). If they are well-behaved, you can likely take them anywhere. Dine earlier if you are concerned.
