Thanks, immimi. I didn't get too much response on the Hamburg report. It was nice to know there was someone out there reading it. I just started a Portland report. This time, I'm writing as we explore the city. Maybe, someone will give me some advice as we go along. Had I written daily for the Hamburg report, I think, I might have had some more leads for exploring the city. Thanks again, annetti.

<<<The simple fact is that OP is someone with little travel experience blaming the place they chose to dine in for their own rawness.

I also have decades of dining in high end Asian restaurants under my belt (literally)) and know that Staff are always Happy to help someone who's unfamiliar with ordering etiquette.>>>

How would this "raw" person even have known to ask? The server should have offered this information, not waited to spring it on him in the bill. (And I am also a very experienced traveler, but apparently not nearly as condescending as SS)

annetti - I think the trip reports of places off the usual
tourist trail do get by-passed (literally). But IMHO, those
are the best places. Well, except for our foray into the Allier
region of France....it hurts me to even think of that trip!

Hi Mimi, rather than monopolize this thread, tell me what went wrong in the Allier region on my Portland thread. And just where is the Allier region??

annetti Sep 22nd, 2010 07:17 PM

Mimi - OTOH if it hurts to discuss it, I'm sorry I brought it up. We'll leave the story alone.

i'waaay off topic here! We spent a week in the Allier district of
France and it poured rain, we were on a farm in the middle of nowhere and there were thousands of Charolais heading to the
abbatoir - my point (if I had one) was there are out-of-the way
places in Europe that are wonderful although untouristed and then
there are the ones like I chose. LOL.

Back to the subject - the Don Mee website doesn't list prices
or extra charges. From the menu I'd say it's a real Chinatown
tourist place although the TA reviews for their Dim Sum are good.

Thank you, immimi. Constant rain CAN ruin a vacation. :( Sorry, that holiday in France did not work out.

I'd give up on this thread. The OP will likely not be back since s/he is apparently a hit-&-run, all-caps poster w/ a one-note theme.

Two posts the same day - this one and over on the USA forum . . .

>>WHERE NOT TO STAY!!! CLARK'S CABINS/SKAGIT RIVER RESORT, ROCKPORT WA.

WE WERE BILKED OUT OF A LARGE SUM FOR A SCUZZY CABIN; PROMISED WIRELESS INTERNET AND THEY HAD WIRELESS BUT NO INTERNET! THE
CABIN HAD ONE BEDROOM DOOR MISSING AND ONE BROKEN; THERE WERE
HOLES IN THE 70-YEAR-OLD LINOLEUM. I WOULDN'T HAVE STAYED THERE AGAIN
FOR $100 A NIGHT LESS THAN WE PAID!!!! <<

Poor dears must have had a dreadful vacation :(

;)

And to think, I commiserated with them :-) !
